Rep. David Cotta to chair State and
Rep. David Cotta to chair State and Local Government Committee

AUGUSTA- State Rep. David Cotta has been appointed House chair of the State and Local Government Committee in the 125th Legislature, giving him an influential voice in a range of areas, from state contracts to county and regional government.

"I'm delighted to have this opportunity," said Rep. Cotta (R-China). "This is a very active committee and it deals with a variety of interesting issues. We have a group of fine legislators on the committee, including some returning for a second term. I'm looking forward to getting started."

House Speaker Robert Nutting, who made the appointment, said Rep. Cotta brings a sense of fairness to the job. "Dave Cotta has the right experience for this position, but perhaps more importantly, he is known for his integrity and fair play," he said. "That combination has won him great respect in the Legislature. I have no doubt that he will handle this important committee in an outstanding manner."

Rep. Cotta brings strong experience to his new chairmanship post. This marks his third consecutive term on the panel, including service in the last Legislature as the ranking Republican. Sen. Doug Thomas (R-Somerset) has been named as the Senate chair.

The State and Local Government Committee has jurisdiction over state contracts and fiscal procedures; state government organization; oversight of state officials, state employees and property; and administrative procedures. It also oversees boards and commissions; notaries public; capitol area planning; county and regional government; county budget process; Legislature; municipal and local government; and public services.

Rep. Cotta, a retired military officer, is a former combat aviator. His House district includes Albion, part of Benton, China, and Unity Township. ###
