AUGUSTA- Rep. Mike Beaulieu has been named House chair of the Legislature's Joint Standing Committee on Veteran and Legal Affairs for the 125th Legislature, a committee he served on during the last legislative session. This committee's jurisdiction represents over 250,000 Maine veterans.
"I am honored to be chosen by Speaker Bob Nutting to lead the committee that oversee the services in support of Maine's military hero's." said Rep. Beaulieu (R-Auburn). "The gaming issues will also be on the forefront for this next session, and Maine people need a strong voice of experience on this committee. Along with Senate Chair Nichi Farnham, (R-Penobscot) I am looking forward to working with this team on the issues that are important to Maine and its people."
The Maine Legislature has 16 joint standing committees, each composed of 13 members - three senators and 10 members of the House. Every committee has jurisdiction over clearly defined parts of state government. The Joint Standing Committee on Veteran and Legal Affairs has jurisdiction over the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management Services (except the Maine Emergency Management Agency), the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, and the Maine National Guard. The Committee also has jurisdiction over liquor laws, lottery, all forms of gambling, betting, and games of chance, campaign and election laws, governmental ethics, lobbyist registration, landlord-tenant laws, and veterans' programs
Rep. Beaulieu is a third term legislator representing House District 68 which includes part of Auburn.
