AUGUSTA- State Rep. David Cotta to chair the important State and Local Government Committee during the upcoming 125th Legislature. This signifies the third consecutive Legislature during which he has served on this key panel, who oversees jurisdiction of state, legislative and local government issues.
Part of this committee's work involves oversight of state contracts and state government organization. "I am privileged to be appointed House Chair of this committee." said Rep. Cotta (R-China). "Senate Chair Doug Thomas (R-Somerset) and I will work with some very motivated legislators on this committee to direct policy during this challenging legislative session."
Rep. Cotta is a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a pilot, reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4th class.
The Maine Legislature has 16 joint standing committees, each composed of 13 members - three senators and 10 members of the House. Every committee oversees clearly defined parts of state government. The Committee of State and Local Government has jurisdiction over state contracts, state government organization and state employees. Its responsibilities also include county, municipal and local government.
Rep. Cotta represents House District 55, which includes Albion, part of Benton, China, and Unity Township.
