MORA
Presentation at NIOSH - Ivan. Ivan reviewed the MORA Presentation he did
at the Best Practices Conference. It
will be placed on the MORA website. The
Steering Committee supports Ivan’s idea of applying for a partnership with NORA
(June 2003). Ivan will proceed with
apply for a partnership and contact the Steering Committee before the next
meeting.
Leslie
Walleigh heard from David Kern, who is unable to commit to the Steering
Committee and is resigning. The
Steering Committee accepts his resignation.
Due
to the contributions from our last meeting, refreshments are available.
Commission
on Safety and Health in the Maine Workplace Update - Ivan. Ivan has
spoken with Hugh Flynn, Chair of the Commission. Ivan will check with Hugh or Linda Nickerson to see if he can be
placed on the agenda for their December 4th meeting to speak about the 2003
MORA Conference. Lynne stated that MORA
is not dependent upon the Commission for funding.
Leslie
asked a question concerning the membership of the Commission and asked if we
could suggest someone to be a part of the Commission. Lynne explained that the Governor appoints the members and that
if there were any vacancies, we could certainly recommend someone. Lynne will check with Bill Peabody and Linda
Nickerson to see if they can keep us informed of any vacancies.
PR
Efforts - Lynne, Jon Torres, and Ron Dyer.
Lynne handed out a draft
brochure for comments from the Steering Committee. She will incorporate the changes. Lynne asked members to suggest mail lists, as well as
newsletters, who might be interested in getting the MORA brochure so that MORA
can become more visible.
Conference
2003 Update - Lynne, Ivan, & Kim.
Lynne handed out a list of confirmed
presentations. She needs the titles of
the breakout sessions so it can be finalized for printing. Discussion included getting union representation
as well as speakers for toxic exposure and cost drivers Presenters should be
finalized before the December 11th Steering Committee meeting.
Kim
spoke on the budget. A contract will be
set up between the Maine Department of Labor (MDOL) and the University of New
England (UNE) for an account under the MDOL name, with William Peabody as the
fiscal agent. MIOHE has contributed
$5,000 for the 2003 Conference and there is a NIOSH grant of $24,000. Any revenue generated by the 2003 Conference
will go back into the account for MORA/MIOHE activities. Ivan made a motion stating this. Steve Minkowsky seconded. Vote, unanimous.
Lynne
extended her thanks to the Steering Committee for all their contributions for
the 2003 Conference. Ruth extended the
Steering Committee’s thanks to Lynne & Kim for doing the work.
Review
of Topic Research Areas. Kim suggested that the Steering Committee revisit the
NORA model, as there are different categories for each research topic
area. At the December 11th
meeting, Kim will present the NORA model.
The topic research areas will meet between the December 11th
meeting and the January 8th meeting.
The
topic research area groups will meet before the December 11th
meeting.
Kim
handed out a publication, NORA Update 2001.
Next
meeting. Wednesday, December 11, 2002, 9:00 AM - Noon, Bureau
of Labor Standards Third Floor Conference Room.
