Compliance Directive

Directive Number: 7-02

Subject: Fire Department Training Records

Purpose: This directive explains what documentation is required for fire department training records for in house training programs and training done by others.

General - All training forms shall have at a minimum the following information:

  1. Date of training or educational program.
  2. Course title / discription.
  3. Name of instructor(s)
  4. Course material used, i.e. Jones & Bartlett, IFSTA, ISFSI, NFPA, Mfg. manual, or other.
  5. Name(s) of personnel present.

Attendance Records:

  1. In-houseTraining - Each member shall sign or initial the attendance sheet.
  2. Out-of station general training - Each member shall sign or initial the master attendance sheet.
  3. A master attendance sheet may be photocopied and placed in individual training records. If training records are maintained on a computer, the master attendance sheets must be kept as supporting documentation to the computer records.

Any training or educational program in which a certificate is issued, the certificate or copy of the certificate shall be kept in the personnel file. No signature is required.

Individual personnel training records may be kept electronically, however a hard copy shall be made available for inspection by the Director of the Bureau of Labor Standards or his or her designee.
