The following is a list of minimum required personal protective equipment (PPE) to be worn by public sector employees when operating, or in close proximity of a chainsaw:
Head Protection: Each affected employee shall wear a protective helmet (hardhat), which meets ANSI Z89.1 or protective helmet that meets other applicable regulations.
Eye or Face Protection: Each affected employee shall wear eye or face protection that meets ANSI Z87.1 when exposed to hazards from flying particles (recommend the use of safety glasses and face shield).
Hearing Protection: Each affected employee subject to noise levels at or above 90 decibels for a time weighted average (TWA) of 8-hours shall be required to wear hearing protection.
Leg Protection: Each affected employee shall wear leg protection (chaps) that covers the upper thigh to boot top.
Foot Protection: Each affected employee shall wear protective footwear that meets ANSI Z41.1 or footwear that meets other applicable regulations (UL, US Forest Service, NFPA, etc.). The following is a list of acceptable footwear.
Hand Protection: Recommend the use of heavy-duty work gloves.
