Bureau/Division Director’s Meeting

The following are points of interest that were discussed at the Bend the Curve portion of the Bureau/Division Director’s meeting on Wednesday, July 6, 2005.

 

  • Jane Gilbert led a continued discussion on Goals and Measures.  The Directors agreed on the following:

 

  • GOALS

 

1.      Provide accurate and timely benefits to unemployed workers and facilitate their reemployment.

 

2.      Increase employment opportunities for Maine residents.

 

3.      Improve knowledge, skills and abilities, promote lifelong learning and support the independence of Maine residents

 

4.      Ensure safe and fair treatment of all people on the job.

 

5.      Supply Maine businesses and industries with information and resources and connect them with a qualified workforce.

 

6.      Ensure efficient and effective management of Departmental systems and resources by providing leadership and supplying relevant information that drives policy and facilitates goal attainment.

 

  • Goal attainment will be measured using the following:

 

1.      Value Added (customer)

 

2.      Reduced Lead Time

 

3.      Dollars Saved

 

4.      Process Steps Reduced

 

5.      Staff Count Reduction

 

6.      Continuous Improvement

 

  • All activities need to be recorded not just the VSM Projects. 
  • Continuous Improvement is the key to success.
  • Directors need to continue to manage and lead all activities.
  • VSM is only one of the 14 tools in LEAN.
  • Directors will look at Goals and Measurements on a monthly basis and update as necessary.
