Bureau/Division Director’s Meeting

June 1, 2005

Commissioner’s Conference Room

The following are points of interest that were discussed at the Bend the Curve portion of the Bureau/Division Director’s meeting on Wednesday, June 1, 2005.

·        John Rioux and Lyndon Hamm gave a Study Mission Report on Six Sigma.  Need not be confined to one way of achieving results. Can use all tools in BTC, TQM, VSM, Six Sigma, Lean or any methodology that works for different tasks.  Primary goal is to define what the customer wants and make sure it’s what the customer needs.

·        There is still some skepticism among staff about BTC.

·        Need to use Employee of the Month as recognition of BTC activity.

·        Six Sigma provides data based management, i.e., what is the data needed to reach conclusion.

·        When DOL consolidation occurs, will use spatial change to make work flow more efficiently.

·        Study Mission trip to Connecticut Department of Labor either the week of July 11 or week of July 18.  Connecticut DOL is working with Lean Government and will host a trip to Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation to discuss implementing Lean.

·        ELT Retreat on June 13 and 14 with three major agenda items:  Where are you personally and organizational, handling the transition and change and Lean tools and application.

·        Continuous Improvement Practitioner training will resume on June 27 for one week. There are still slots open and Directors will encourage employees to sign up.

·        A BTC Fair, for all Projects, will be held on June 9 at the Civic Center for a system-wide check -in.
