Bureau/Division Director’s Meeting

April 20, 2005

Commissioner’s Conference Room

The following are points of interest that were discussed at the Bend the Curve portion of the Bureau/Division Director’s meeting on Wednesday, April 20, 2005.

  • The VSM Presentation was the Website VSM. Members of the VSM team attending were Bruce Prindall, David Welch, Rachel Newman, Amanda Rector, Frank Southard and Sponsor, Adam Fisher.
  • A paper was distributed outlining the current and future state.  The current state evolved without any structure as the internet evolved. Consequently, no consistency exists and there are no operating procedures for the development of new material and the maintenance of existing sites.
  • Recommendations are to have a website coordinator, at lease part-time, to keep the website updated in a consistent, customer-friendly manner.
  • The state has established a template that should be followed by all agencies.
  • The position would update current information for all Bureaus and Divisions within the Department, using the graphics established in the State policy.
  • The information needs to have feedback from the CareerCenter.
  • The position needs to be more a marketing position rather than a technical position.
  • After the presentation, Jane led the Directors through a review of the Myers –Briggs personality type exercise. The object was to look at the group’s experience in decision making.
  • Another CIP (Facilitator Training) session is needed, as four of the previously trained employees have either left DOL employment or have dropped out.  There is a need for at least 15 CIPs to adequately facilitate DOL VSM teams.
  • Management wants to keep the enthusiasm exhibited by employees going.  There have been at least 10 VSM systems in the BUC Call Centers that have been started at the grass-roots level.
  • Being certified as at CIP is a highly marketable skill.
