The following are points of interest that were discussed at the Bend the Curve portion of the Bureau/Division Director’s meeting on Wednesday, January 26, 2005

  • Continuation of redesign discussion.
  • Susan Gallant led the Managers through a presentation listing several additional redesign options.  In addition to the Conference Model, there is Whole-Scale Change, Future Search, Appreciative Inquiry, Open Space Technology (OST).
  • Should not spend more than six months on the redesign.
  • There has been a struggle with communication with the BTC and the Redesign will present more of a struggle.
  • Focus on the positive, i.e., what will work and not what doesn’t work.
  • Hold interviews with employees to collect data.
  • Share stories, the more people in the room the better.
  • Analyze data.
  • Start where you want to end.
  • Redesign must mesh with the state system consolidation.
  • Phase II of VSM Projects will be those that will have the greatest savings.
  • Kim presented a paper entitled “Projected Bend the Curve Expenditures for SFY 2005” and led a discussion.
  • Commissioner Fortman stated we must identify real savings before she will agree to spend more money.
  • The February 3, BTC meeting at the Civic Center when people share their VSM experiences should show real savings.
  • Need to publicize successes.
  • Arthur and Jane will meet with Sponsors on Monday, January 31.
