October Programs for Job Seekers at the York County CareerCenter

SPRINGVALE?The York County CareerCenter in Springvale is offering many programs in October for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase their employability this spring.

?I encourage people to take advantage of the free assistance that the Springvale CareerCenter provides job seekers,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?CareerCenter staff can help you plan a new career or connect you with today?s job search tools.?

All businesses looking to hire and people looking for work should register with the Maine Job Bank. This month the Job Bank has more than 7,000 job openings. There is no cost to create a profile if you are a job seeker or to list a job if you are an employer.

Resume Workshop - Tuesday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m. to noon. Explore the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match what the employer needs. Registration is required.

York County Works - Tuesday, Oct. 8, 9 to 11 a.m. ?Temping Your Way to New Employment or Career?. Why should you consider registering with a staffing agency? Please join us for a lively discussion and Q & A session with those who have the answers and learn about the benefits of temporary employment. Space will be limited. York County Networking Group: Brown Bag Networking the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., following our York County Works Events. Take your job search to the next level by utilizing the power of Networking. Join your local York County Networking Group to meet other people, share strategies, tips and leads. Remember, it only takes one piece of information to lead you to your next opportunity. Bring a lunch and bring a friend! All are welcome. No reservation required.

Interview Workshop: Tuesday, Oct. 15, 9 a.m. to noon. Learn new interviewing techniques by role playing interviews. Registration required.

GATEways to Employment: Monday, Oct. 21, 9 a.m. to noon. Join us for the beginning installment of our ?workshop trilogy.? Learn how assessments can identify abilities, interests and skills and discover the unadvertised job market. Other topics include Job Search Strategies, Resumes, Cover Letter Tips and Interviewing. Essentials of College Planning Workshop ? Monday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Randi Paine from the Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) will be offering a free workshop for adults 19 and older covering topics on College Awareness and Planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process. The instructor will assist participants in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Springborn Staffing: Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. A representative from Springborn Staffing will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter. Openings are available for experienced Production, Assembly & Warehouse Personnel. Applicants must have reliable transportation. Please bring 2 valid forms of ID and resume to interview. Health insurance benefits are available.

Fed Ex Ground: Tuesday, Oct. 15, 9 a.m. to noon. Fed Ex Ground will be at the York County CareerCenter recruiting for Seasonal Driving positions. Must be 21 years old and will be required to have drug screening, background check and physicals. One year commercial driving exp. preferred, 6 mos. exp. driving like-sized commercial vehicle within the last 3 years required. Must have valid driver's license, clean driving record and customer service skills. No appointment needed.

Adecco Staffing: Every Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An Adecco representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale. Current openings are in Sanford, Biddeford, Saco and Portland areas. No reservation required.

Goodwill Workforce Solutions administers federally funded employment and training programs through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Certain eligibility requirements apply. If you think you might qualify or could benefit from this program please call the Workforce Solutions Center in Biddeford at 207-571-3301 to schedule a date for a training orientation.

Maine Centers for Women, Work & Community offer no cost classes in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities.
