Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair in Augusta on Oct. 8 Will Occur as Scheduled

AUGUSTA? An event in Augusta for veterans on Oct. 8 will go on as scheduled while another event in Portland, originally scheduled for that same date, is being postponed.

The 2013 Hiring Our Heroes job fair in Augusta will take place at the Augusta Armory at 179 Western Ave. on Oct. 8, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The general public is invited to attend as well as veterans and military personnel and their families. A workshop for veterans and other military job seekers focusing on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military-skill translation and interviewing will be held at 9 a.m. prior to the opening of the job fair. The Occupational Licensing and Job Fair scheduled for Oct. 8 at the Stevens Avenue National Guard Armory in Portland has been postponed to a later date, yet to be determined.
Some of the key personnel involved with hosting and providing services to the event have been affected by the federal government shutdown. Information on the rescheduled event will be released as soon as it becomes available.

In the meantime, veterans or active duty military who have questions about civilian employment in Maine should contact their local CareerCenter, which remain open, http://www.mainecareercenter.com/ . CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer specialized employment and training services for veterans. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
