List of Abbreviated Publishers
The Anglo American cataloging rules recommend that the name of the publisher in the publication, distribution, etc. area (260 MARC tag) be entered in the shortest form that is still recognizable. Accompanying words that imply publication may often be omitted. The term "Press" should only be omitted from the name of large commercial publishers, not from university or small presses. No formal list of these publishers has been established by Library of Congress or the American Library Association as far as I know. This list has been complied from various cataloging records that I have used. This not an exhaustive list. Add to the list as you come across shorten names.
