The Maine State Library Will...

  1. Provide a wireless access point / router, several wireless network cards and a wireless-equipped notebook computer to each participating library.
  2. Determine one or more acceptable locations for the wireless access point
  3. Assist in configuring the access point and the notebook computer so they work together and with the library's existing network.
  4. Assist in arranging with MSLN staff any necessary reconfiguration of the MSLN connection to the library.
  5. Provide basic training in management of the access point and of wireless client hardware
  6. Provide phone and email support for questions arising in the use of the wireless hardware.
  7. Provide an overview of security and other management choices available to the local site.
  8. Evaluate site needs and, where appropriate and necessary, provide additional wireless connection devices. This will be done taking into account the constraints of the project budget and at the sole discretion of Maine State Library staff.

The Participating Library Will...

  1. Take responsibility for any running of ethernet cable or installation of electrical power connections that may be necessary.
  2. Maintain Walk-in-Wireless service for a period of at least two years subsequent to installation, subject to proper functioning of equipment.
  3. Provide access to the service to any Maine citizen at no charge.
  4. Develop an Acceptable Use Policy for wireless access, or add the wireless service to an existing Acceptable Use Policy, and provide a copy of the policy to the Maine State Library project contact person.
  5. Post and/or distribute to users an advisory statement describing the level of security in place with respect to wireless communications within the library. (MSL will provide model statements for the library to modify and use.)
  6. Assist the public in using the wireless connection.
  7. Respond to surveys and other requests for usage and configuration information from Maine State Library staff.
  8. Report questions and problems to designated Maine State Library support staff.
  9. Designate a contact person for email and other communication with Maine State Library Staff.
