Maine InfoNet Proposal Approved

In early March, 1999 the following announcement was posted to the Maine Libraries Discussion List (MELIBS-L) on behalf of State Librarian Gary Nichols

On February 19, 1999, the State of Maine Contract Review Committee approved Innovative Interfaces Inc.'s proposal for provision of software and services for Maine InfoNet. This action brings us within one very small step of creation of the new library servers and services for which so many members of the Maine library community have worked so hard over the past several years.

While final contract language is being worked out, we will be moving forward on several fronts.

A series of regionally-sited meetings will be held around the state to demonstrate the new InfoNet capabilities and discuss library options for using and becoming a part of the new InfoNet system in any of several possible ways. In about 10 days we will announce a schedule for these meetings as well as the address of an extensive new InfoNet web site featuring detailed descriptions of system functions, contact information and a variety of related information. A printed mailing will be sent to all Maine libraries as well.

No matter how large or small, how specialized or general your library, there are benefits to your library and your library's users that will flow from Maine InfoNet.
