About Maine InfoNet

Mission

Maine InfoNet, a service of the University of Maine System and the Maine State Library, draws on a partnership of public, academic, school, and special libraries to create the leading statewide source of information and educational resources for Maine citizens. It provides an online information portal, promotes resource sharing, provides cost-effective solutions for improvement of the quality of library and information services, and supports the economic development of the State. In short, it seeks to establish a statewide Maine Digital Library.

Vision

Maine InfoNet will:

  • provide Maine citizens with the accurate and authoritative information they need to make informed decisions;
  • strengthen access to and the delivery of information statewide to meet the research, educational, cultural, and recreational needs of Maine citizens, regardless of their location;
  • enable each library to serve as an easy-to-use gateway to reliable information resources for its users'
  • organize resources and services efficiently and effectively so they will be available to all citizens, regardless of their location;enable libraries to enhance the quality of services for their clients through the sharing of expertise and best practices;
  • be recognized as primary web-based portal to a comprehensive set of information resources for Maine citizens;enhance Maine's competitive position, economic development, educational opportunities, and quality of life; create and generate new sources of information based upon materials owned and housed by Maine libraries; and
  • provide equal access to information for all of the citizens of the state.
