Essential Wildlife Habitat MapsATTENTION! The designation of Essential Habitats is an ongoing process, where sites may be added, deleted, and/or revised following public rulemaking. As as result, information and maps will be periodically updated. To be certain the most current Essential Habitat maps and documents are consulted, users are advised to carefully monitor update notices and version dates.
Essential Wildlife Habitat Internet Mapping Service In the past, this web page provided individual links to over 400 pre-made maps of sites designated as Essential Wildlife Habitat in Maine. To increase efficiency and ensure the user always has access to the most current mapped information, MDIFW has replaced the individual links and maps with an Internet Mapping Service (IMS). The Internet Mapping Service creates maps of Essential Wildlife Habitat as you request the information. Starting from a map of the whole state, you can zoom in to any area, view Essential Wildlife Habitats at that location, and print out a hard-copy map. There is also a “Zoom to Town” button to help you quickly go to a specific township. In addition, the IMS includes links to several help documents, including “How do I…?”, “Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)”, and “Tool Help”. Because maps created by the IMS do not show a signature or effective date, they should not be considered as copies of "official" Essential Wildlife Habitat Maps. However, they do show exactly the same mapped information as the signed versions. Copies of signed and dated maps can be obtained from all MDIFW offices or from affected town offices. Essential Wildlife Habitat Internet Mapping Service For your convenience, all Essential Habitats currently designated in Maine are indexed by town name in the following document: Index to Essential Wildlife Habitats by Town PDF Some of the documents below are provided in PDF format. To view PDF documents, you will need the free Adobe Reader. If you need assistance, view our PDF Help page or contact us at ifw.webmaster@maine.gov or (207) 287-8000. Questions, suggestions, and comments about the Essential Wildlife Habitat Maps or the Internet Mapping Service can be directed to: essential.habitat@maine.gov.
