IF&W Commissioner Announces New Department Spokesperson

Augusta, Maine -- Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Roland “Dan” Martin announced today the hiring of Deborah Turcotte of Bangor as Public Relations Representative.

“Deborah brings more than 15 years of communications experience to the Department,” Martin said. “Her background as a journalist, a salesperson, and as a designer and marketer of several products and publications is well suited for the public outreach role on this position.”

Ms. Turcotte has worked in an “acting” capacity at the Department since mid-November. She is a former award-winning business reporter at the Bangor Daily News, and worked on the copy desk there as well. She also was a peak employment interviewer at L.L. Bean, a designer of two Maine snowmobile trail maps, and a marketer of products including T-shirts, posters and a book.

“Deb is highly skilled in all phases of print journalism from copy editing, layout and design, to research and writing,” said Regis Tremblay, director of the Division Public Information and Education at IF&W. “She is an energetic addition to our staff and a tireless worker.”

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Division of Public Information and Education includes the agency’s Information Center, the Maine Wildlife Park, recreational safety education, youth activities, natural science education, public relations and marketing. It is charged with increasing the public's understanding of Maine’s inland fisheries and wildlife resources and the state’s management of these resources.
