Child has Died - ATV Incident/Shin Pond
Shin Pond, Maine - The Maine Warden Service reports that four-year-old Tanner Morse from Searsport died late last evening from injuries sustained from an ATV incident that occurred on August 6 in the town of Shin Pond. Tanner was operating an 80cc Yamaha four-wheeler on property owned by his grandfather. The grandfather, Craig Morse, age 49, lives off from Cottage Road where the incident occurred. The child’s father, Cody Morse, age 24, from Stacyville, found his son unconscious about 200 feet from the home at approximately 6:00 PM. Patten Ambulance transported Tanner to Houlton Regional Hospital and then he was flown by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
It appears the boy attempted to drive up an incline. The machine rolled backwards and landed on top of him. The helmet was off the boy but near the machine. Witnesses observed the boy wearing the helmet earlier. This incident remains under investigation by the Maine Warden Service in cooperation with the Penobscot County District Attorneys Office.
