Maine Warden Service Recovers Body of Missing Angler

Augusta, Maine - The Maine Warden Service has recovered the body of a missing angler who was reported missing on Sunday night after he fell from a canoe while fishing on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson.

Victor Hardmon, 20, of Norton, Mass., was fishing with a friend, Brian James Malvey, 20, of Auburn, Mass., at approximately 7:30 p.m. when their canoe capsized and began to take on water. Both men were standing in the canoe and fishing at the time of the incident.

No lifejackets were in the canoe. The incident occurred near the Bunker Hill Road boat launch in Jefferson.

Mr. Malvey and a dog were able to swim to shore, and then Mr. Malvey returned to the location and attempted to help his friend.

Mr. Hardmon’s family has been notified.

The Maine Warden Service and its dive team, the Bristol Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Central Lincoln County Ambulance, and other local rescue crews worked the search.
