Maine Warden Service Arrests Operator of Boat in Shapleigh Incident

Augusta, Maine - The Maine Warden Service has arrested a 23-year-old Danvers, Mass., man for operation of a watercraft under the influence for an early Sunday morning boating incident in Shapleigh that injured two people, one with life-threatening injuries.

Raymond Fraser III, 23, of Danvers, Mass., was arrested at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the scene of the incident on Square Pond.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, a 23-foot boat being driven by Mr. Fraser left Square Pond and landed about eight feet off the ground in trees on an island on Square Pond, according to Maine Warden Service Captain Dan Scott.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Maine Warden Service and the York County District Attorney’s Office.

Mr. Fraser is scheduled to appear in court in late summer.

Also on the boat were:
Lindsay Fallon, 19, Westford, Mass., who suffered life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Goodall Hospital in Sanford, and transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she has been stabilized.

Patrick McDonough, 26, North Redding, Mass., who suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, where he was treated and released on Sunday.

Courtney McDonough, 18, North Redding, Mass., who is Patrick’s sister. She suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

Wardens Mike Joy and Eric Blanchard, Sgt. Tim Place and Captain Dan Scott are investigating the incident.
