March 26, 2009 Governor Announces Nominations Augusta, Maine - Governor John E. Baldacci today announced nominations to the District Court; Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Advisory Council; and the Unemployment Insurance Commission. Marilyn Stavros, of Kennebunkport, is being nominated as an Active Retired District Court Judge. Judge Stavros has served on the District Court for nearly four years. Prior to that, Judge Stavros served as a Magistrate in the Family Division of the Maine District Court. She also held the position of Assistant Attorney General for nearly 10 years. Judge Stavros holds a B.S. from Simmons College and a J.D. from University of Maine School of Law. Stephen Philbrick and John Simko are being appointed to the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Advisory Council. Philbrick, of Oquossoc, is being reappointed to the Council. He is the owner of a sporting camp in the Western Mountains. Philbrick has been a professional guide for 38 years and is a registered Maine Guide Master. He holds an undergraduate degree from Paul Smith College and a master’s degree from Florida International University. Simko, of Greenville, is a new appointment. He has served as town manager of Greenville for 9 years. Prior to that, Simko was the town manager of Sangerville. He has been a wilderness Emergency Medical Technician for more than a decade. Simko earned a B.A. from Bowdoin College. Edward C. Kelleher, a resident of Scarborough, is being nominated for the Unemployment Insurance Commission. Kelleher, who has been retired for a year, had served for 21 years as a member of the administrative team for the Judicial Branch of the State of Maine. He served in the Maine State Legislature from 1969 to 1984, representing Bangor. The nominations must be reviewed by the respective committees of oversight and confirmed by the Senate. |
