The Maine Warden Service today recovered the body of Robert Pomeroy (DOB 7-19-52) of Dover-Foxcroft from First Buttermilk Pond in the town of Bowerbank.
Mr. Pomeroy was located in six feet of water at approximately 10:50 a.m. today by Maine Warden Service diver Irene Yaws, who along with another diver was searching the shoreline by boat when she noticed him in the water.
MWS Chaplin Kate Braestrup notified Mr. Pomeroy’s family, and he was taken to Lary Funeral Home.
Mr. Pomeroy and three life-long friends were crossing First Buttermilk Pond to visit friends at approximately 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, when one of the boaters, Kevin Stitham (DOB 1-13-52) noticed that the craft, which is owned by Stitham, was taking on water. He informed Mr. Pomeroy and they turned around and headed for shore, according to Lt. Patrick Dorian of the Maine Warden Service.
Mr. Stitham made it to shore, got a boat and headed back onto the pond, where he picked up David Perkins (DOB 8-13-58) of Dover-Foxcroft. Mr. Pomeroy and James Brown (DOB 10-6-51) of Dover-Foxcroft were reported missing.
The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department notified the Maine Warden Service at 8:20 p.m. and a search commenced, according to Dorian.
Mr. Brown was recovered at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
On Sunday, 17 Game Wardens, including seven divers and a pilot, conducted the search, as well as a Maine State Police diver, the Bowerbank Fire Department, the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office and the Milo Fire Department. The search was suspended at approximately 5 p.m. and resumed at 8:50 a.m. today. Another Maine Warden Service boat and another diver were added to the search this morning.
