Map of Maine Moose Hunting DistrictsNorthern, western, and eastern portions of the State are open to moose hunting. To distribute hunting pressure, more closely monitor population changes, and better refine moose population management, the moose hunting area is comprised of 23 Wildlife Management Districts (WMD's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 26, 27 and 28). Select a district from the map below to view a map and description of the individual district.
Moose populations are excellent in all 19 Wildlife Management Districts. More important differences between the WMD's are in their distance from towns, road access to and within the WMD, habitat types, and availability of services and lodging. These characteristics are discussed in the wildlife management district descriptions. (Click on any district in the above map to get more detailed information on that specific district.) All WMD boundary lines are well-marked using physical features such as roads, rivers, lake shores, international boundaries, etc. All WMD boundary descriptions begin at the southwest corner of the WMD and proceed clockwise. All WMD locations are referenced on maps found in the DeLorme Maine Atlas & Gazetteer which can be purchased at book stores or ordered from the department. |
