Youth Deer Hunting Day: October 20, 2007
Junior hunters 10 years of age or older and under 16 years of age who possess a valid junior hunting license are allowed to take one deer of either sex with a firearm or a bow and arrow on the youth deer hunting day. A junior hunter is not required to have an any-deer permit on this day. If they shoot a deer on the youth deer hunting day, they are prohibited from taking any additional deer unless they have been awarded a bonus antlerless deer permit or participate in the expanded archery season (designated areas only) with appropriate expanded archery permits.
Junior hunters must be accompanied by parent, guardian, or a qualified adult. The qualified adult must be a person 18 or older who has been approved by the youth's parent or guardian; this person must hold a valid Maine hunting license or have completed a hunter safety course.
The accompanying adult may not carry a firearm on the youth deer hunting day. All laws pertaining to hunting during the open firearms season on deer apply on the youth deer hunting day.
Youth Spring Wild Turkey Hunting Day: April 28, 2007
Junior hunters 10 years of age or older and under 16 years of age who possess a valid spring Wild Turkey permit and a junior hunting license may hunt Wild Turkey with a firearm or bow and arrow on the youth Spring Wild Turkey hunting day (the Saturday preceding the opening day of Season A of the Spring Wild Turkey hunting season). In addition, junior hunters 10 years of age or older and under 16 years of age who possess a valid Spring Wild Turkey permit and a junior hunting license may hunt on any Saturday during either Season A or Season B regardless of their year of birth.
The rules for the youth turkey hunting days will be the same as those established for youth deer hunting day, except that a junior hunter must have a valid Spring Wild Turkey hunting permit in addition to a valid junior hunting license.
Junior hunters may hunt for one bearded turkey, and must be accompanied by parent, guardian, or a qualified adult. The qualified adult must be a person 18 or older who has been approved by the youth's parent or guardian; this person must hold a valid Maine hunting license or have completed a hunter safety course.
The accompanying adult cannot possess a firearm on the youth Spring Wild Turkey hunting day. All laws pertaining to hunting during the Spring Wild Turkey hunting season apply on the Youth Spring Wild Turkey hunting day.
Youth Waterfowl Hunting Day: September 22, 2007
Junior hunters 10 years of age or older and under 16 years of age who possess a valid junior hunting license (no stamps required) are allowed to hunt waterfowl on the youth waterfowl hunting day. The daily limits are the same as during the regular duck season, except one black duck may be taken.
Junior hunters must be accompanied by parent, guardian, or a qualified adult. The qualified adult must be a person 18 or older who has been approved by the youth's parent or guardian; this person must hold a valid Maine hunting license or have completed a hunter safety course.
The accompanying adult may not carry a firearm on the youth waterfowl hunting day, unless they are hunting Canada Geese. All laws pertaining to hunting during the open migratory bird hunting season apply on the youth waterfowl hunting day.
