Pheasant Hunting Program

2007 Release Sites

MDIFW supports a pheasant program in cooperation with several dedicated Fish & Game Clubs and two dozen generous landowners in York and Cumberland Counties that have agreed to be release sites for approximately 2900 ring-necked pheasants that have been raised from 7-week-old chicks. Funding for the acquisition and care of birds is derived exclusively from the sale of required state pheasant stamps, which can be purchased wherever hunting licenses are sold. The season on pheasant runs from Ocober 1 – December 31. Birds are only released at designated sites in York and Cumberland Counties. The daily bag limit is 2 birds, either sex. All other applicable hunting regulations apply to pheasant hunting.

Birds are released at the designated sites on Sundays and/or occasionally on Fridays at sites in York and the Berwicks. Birds will be present on opening day at all sites with the exception of Bragdon Pits in Wells. Stocking will take place weekly throughout October and into November until all birds are released.

Please respect the private property of the cooperating landowners. Without the access they provide, there would be no pheasant program. Attached are maps of the release sites with UTM coordinates. Most release sites will be marked with a green/white 8”x10” plastic sign reading Attention Sportsman – No Vehicles Beyond This Point. Hunt safely and good luck.
