Roland "Danny" Martin
Commissioner, Inland Fisheries and Wildlife

Roland “Danny” Martin was appointed Commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife by Governor John E. Baldacci in January of 2003, confirmed by the Maine State Senate in March and assumed office on March 7, 2003.

Commissioner Martin has over 25 years of administrative and management experience and is an avid sportsman. Prior to his being named Commissioner, Martin served 16 years as the Aroostook County Administrator and 7 years as town manager of Madawaska and Frenchville. He served in the Maine Army National Guard as a Commissioned Officer.

Martin is a former member of the Maine State House of Representatives (1975-1976), and the Maine State Senate (1977-1980). While in the Legislature, he served on the Committees on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Labor, State and Local Government, Taxation and Agriculture.

He has also been a small business owner, operating Rosette’s Restaurant in Frenchville and Martin’s Grocery and Sporting Camps in Sinclair, Maine on the shores of Long Lake. Martin has been active in the community serving on many boards and commissions including; Cary Medical Center, the Northern Maine Development Commission, the Loring Development Authority of Maine and the Maine Rural Development Authority.

 

 

 

Maine is well known for its wealth of natural resources, and abundance of wildlife. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is one of the smallest state agencies, yet we are responsible for overseeing a state so vast, it is nearly as large as the rest of New England combined. The 300 employees of our agency are entrusted with an annual budget of 32 million dollars and strive to protect the resources so vital to our state’s economy. Hunting, fishing and wildlife watching are important industries in the State; in fact, they have a combined economic impact of over $1.1 billion dollars. We protect and preserve the state’s natural resources, and make sure you are safe when you are out enjoying the woods and waters of this magnificent state. We also ensure, through careful management, that our state’s fish and wildlife resources will be there for generations to come, and that Maine will continue to be a special place for those who live or visit here.
