Brief Summary:The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is proposing regulation changes for the upcoming ice fishing and open water fishing seasons. These regulations are needed to provide for the effective conservation of Maine’s inland fisheries, and enhance fishing opportunities throughout the State. All of the proposals may be discussed at any of the 4 public hearings listed above. The list of proposals may be obtained from the Agency Contact Person or online at: http://www.maine.gov/ifw Anyone unable to attend a public hearing may submit written comments on any of the proposals. The proposals, if adopted, will become effective January 1, 2015. The Department is also proposing regulation changes to waters that will then become listed as State Heritage Fish waters.

Brief Summary: In accordance with Title 12, Section 12803, the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is proposing to recommend additions and modifications to the list of endangered and threatened species to the Maine State Legislature for their consideration and approval. The law requires that prior to recommending additions, deletions or other changes to the list, the Commissioner shall provide for public notice and public hearings on the proposed recommendation to the Legislature. Public hearings have been scheduled and are listed above. The proposed changes may be obtained from the agency contact person listed above.

Brief Summary: The Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has scheduled a public hearing to consider the adoption of the following rules pertaining to season dates, bag limits and shooting hours for the hunting of ducks, geese and other migratory game birds (SUBJECT TO CHANGE TO COMPLY WITH FINAL FEDERAL GUIDELINES PUBLISHED IN SEPTEMBER).

1) Ducks NORTH ZONE: September 29 through December 6, 2014
SOUTH ZONE: October 1 through October 18, 2014
November 3 through December 23, 2014
COASTAL ZONE: October 1 through October 18, 2014
November 14, 2014 through January 3, 2015
Daily Limit 6 ducks, no more than 4 of any one species; possession limit 18, no more than 12 of any one species,
with the following exceptions:
a. Closed season for harlequin ducks and Barrow’s goldeneye.
b. Daily limit: 1; possession limit: 3; for black ducks, canvasbacks, mottled ducks, and fulvous whistling ducks.
c. Daily limit: 2; possession limit: 6; for hen mallard, northern pintail, scaup and redhead ducks.
e. Daily limit: 3; possession limit: 9; for wood ducks.
2) Mergansers and American coots: SEASON DATES SAME AS DUCKS.
Mergansers: Daily limit 5 in the aggregate; possession limit 15 with the following
exception; Hooded mergansers: daily limit: 2; possession limit: 6.
American coot: Daily limit 5, possession limit 15.
3) Canada Geese (Early Season): September 1 through September 25, 2014.
NORTH ZONE: Daily limit 6; possession limit: 18.
SOUTH ZONE: Daily limit 10; possession limit: 30.
COASTAL ZONE: Daily limit 10; possession limit: 30.
Regular Goose Season - (Daily Limit 2, possession limit 6)
NORTH ZONE: October 1 through December 9, 2014.
SOUTH ZONE: October 1 through October 18, 2014
November 3 through December 23, 2014
COASTAL ZONE: October 1 through October 18, 2014
November 14, 2014 through January 3, 2015
4) Snow Geese: October 1, 2014 - January 31, 2015. Daily limit 25; no possession limit.
5) Brant: (Daily limit 2; possession limit 6)
NORTH ZONE: October 1 through November 4, 2014
SOUTH ZONE: October 1 through October 18, 2014 November 3 through November 18, 2014
COASTAL ZONE: October 1 through October 18, 2014
November 14 through November 29, 2014
6) Special Falconry Season: In addition to the regular migratory bird season on ducks, geese,
mergansers, and American coots:
NORTH ZONE: December 12, 2014 through February 2, 2015.
COASTAL and SOUTH ZONE: January 8, 2015 through February 28, 2015.
Falconry season daily bag and possession limits for all permitted migratory game birds shall
not exceed 3 and 9 birds respectively, singly or in the aggregate.
7) Sea Ducks: (scoters, eiders, and long-tailed ducks in the sea duck zone***):
October 1, 2014 through January 31, 2015.
Daily limit 7; possession limit 21with following exceptions:
Scoter: daily limit: 4; possession limit: 12;
Common Eider: daily limit: 4; possession limit: 12.
***Note: the Sea Duck zone differs from the Coastal Zone in definition:
Sea Duck Zone = All coastal waters and all waters of rivers and streams seaward from the first upstream bridge.
Coastal Zone = Includes areas south of a line beginning at the Maine-New Brunswick border in
Calais at the Route 1 bridge, south along Route 1 to the Maine-New Hampshire border in Kittery.
8) Woodcock: October 1 – November 14, 2014
Daily limit 3; possession limit 9
9) Common Snipe September 1 – December 16, 2014
Daily limit 8; possession limit 24
10) Rails (Sora and Virginia) September 1 – November 8, 2014
