Governor LePage Proclaims June 9, 2012 as TAMC Day

AUGUSTA - Governor Paul LePage issued the following proclamation declaring June 9, 2012 as TAMC Day:
"WHEREAS, Presque Isle’s first public hospital and one of the first public healthcare facilities in Aroostook County was established as a not-for-profit organization and officially opened on Second Street in 1912 to meet the needs of a growing community and region; and
WHEREAS, subsequent growth and demand for services have resulted in significant new construction, expansion and reach to include services and facilities in several Aroostook County communities, including Presque Isle, Mars Hill, Fort Fairfield, Caribou and Ashland; and
WHEREAS, the entity that began as Presque isle General Hospital and is now known as The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) is a vibrant and integral organization in northern Maine, headquartered on the A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital campus in Presque Isle; and
WHEREAS, TAMC has the distinction of being the leading provider of healthcare services in northern Maine and is the region’s largest employer; and
WHEREAS, TAMC continues to embrace its not-for-profit mission by partnering with interested members of the community to continually improve the health status of the region; and
WHEREAS, TAMC is pioneering new models of accountable healthcare for the benefit of Aroostook County; and
WHEREAS, the year 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Presque Isle’s first public hospital and The Aroostook Medical Center has encouraged and engaged the community in commemorating and celebrating this milestone; and
WHEREAS, on June 9th 2012, TAMC, the City of Presque Isle and the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, working collaboratively with numerous businesses, not-profit organizations and community groups will hold a significant community-wide celebration to mark the significant occasion of 100 years of healthcare and service.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL R. LEPAGE, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim June 9, 2012 as
throughout the state of Maine and urge citizens to recognize the contributions of the Aroostook Medical Center and their efforts to bring quality healthcare services to northern Maine."
