I’m proud to be the Governor of Maine, home to hard-working, generous people.

All Maine families must have opportunities where they can prosper now and in the future. My job as your Governor is to provide the vision for a better tomorrow and build on the successes of today.

We are at a crossroads in this state. While we can see the fruits of our labor which include new jobs and a rising income we need to look at Maine as part of the global picture.

The economy is diversifying, with clusters of businesses relying on new technology - for both traditional industries like farming and forestry, and in new and growing sectors such as information technology and biotechnology.

We have come far but must take the next steps to provide for opportunity in the years to come. The time is now for us to take bold action.

To achieve these goals and realize our full potential as a state, we must make the most of our resources and must invest in the tools that will propel us forward in this global economy.

We must be focused on investments that increase access to affordable quality higher education and workforce training; that ensures all Mainers have access to health care; to grow good paying jobs; and to build R&D and innovation throughout every region of our state.

Additionally, through streamlining state government, increasing government efficiencies, and reducing taxes, we'll have a solid foundation on which to grow our economy.

Working together, we can create more opportunities, build a stronger more competitive Maine, and preserve the special Maine way of life. Celebrating Maine, our time is now!
