The BudgetGovernor Baldacci's Biennial Budget Proposal for Fiscal Years 2010-11 Governor Baldacci's Fiscal Year 2009 Proposed Supplemental Budget More information about the current year's budget can be found on the Bureau of the Budget web site. The Budget Balancing Education ToolThis tool may help you learn about the budget proposed by Governor Baldacci for the next two fiscal years. The proposed budget covers State government operations and the services the State provides to Maine people. The Maine Constitution requires the Governor to present a balanced budget. The money coming in (“Revenues”) have to be at least as much or more than money going out (“Expenditures”). This budget covers the time period beginning July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2011. Unveiling the budget proposal, Governor Baldacci said that Maine has not escaped the effects of the national recession and global financial crisis. We are all faced with hard decisions and shared sacrifice. “The opportunity exists now,” the Governor said, “to continue to practice fiscal responsibility, to preserve the safety net for those who need it most, and make reforms to reduce administration and control spending.” The proposed budget is now before the Legislature. When the final version of the budget is passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor, it will go into effect on July 1, 2009. The Budget Balancing Tool requires the Adobe Flash plugin. If you are unable to use the tool, the budget projections are also available in HTML format.
The Budget Balancing Tool was created without any General Fund spending, through an innovative partnership between the state and the Information Resource of Maine (InforME). InforME has been self-funding since its inception in 1999 and does not draw any money from the state's General Fund budget. |
