GEOLIBRARY INFORMATION |
Web Mapping Services (WMS)The Maine GeoLibrary has partnered with the Maine Office of GIS (MEGIS) to continually improve access to Maine's orthoimagery, not only by expanding the inventory of orthoimagery products available, but also by increasing the accessibility of such data through web services. To that end, the Board purchased servers, with MEGIS providing the hosting and administration, to provide public access to ALL publicly-available orthoimagery the State has available. To date this provides over 30 different services for Maine orthoimagery. The services are provided using the Open GIS Consortium (OGC) standard for WMS. This open standard ensures the data are available to a wide array of GIS clients and web applications, including ArcGIS, MapInfo, Google Earth, QGIS, and several others.
For more details, see the MEGIS maps page For a complete list of ortho products available, see the MEGIS catalog The Maine State Capitol, captured here during the 2003-2005 GeoLibrary-funded orthoimagery project, and delivered to the open-source QGIS package using GeoLibrary-supported WMS:
