Party Committees

Democratic, Republican, and Green Independent party committees that raise or spend $1,500 or more in a calendar year must file campaign finance reports with the Commission. State party committees are on a different filing schedule than municipal, district, and county party committees.

Any expenditure made to design, produce, or disseminate a communication that is disseminated in the last 21 days before a primary election or 35 days before a general election and that names or depicts a clearly identified candidate who is in a race involving a Maine Clean Election Act candidate will be presumed to be an independent expenditure. The party making the expenditure must either file an Independent Expenditure Report or a written statement that the expenditure was not made with the intent to influence the election.
