Political Action CommitteesOrganizations raising or spending $1,500 to influence elections in Maine may be required to register and file campaign finance reports with the Ethics Commission. Expenditures of $500 or more made after the 14th day before an election must be reported in a 24-Hour Report. Please select the 2008 Filing Schedule for more information on these deadlines. Any expenditure made to design, produce, or disseminate a communication that is disseminated in the last 21 days before a primary election or the last 35 days before a general election and that names or depicts a clearly identified candidate who is in a race involving a Maine Clean Election Act candidate will be presumed to be an independent expenditure. The party making the expenditure must either file an Independent Expenditure Report or a written statement that the expenditure was not made with the intent to influence the election. For more information on these requirements, please telephone the Ethics Commission at (207) 287-4179. |
