For Lobbyists

Maine's lobbyist disclosure program is administered by the Ethics Commission. Every lobbyist in Maine must file a joint registration with the lobbyist's employer (client), and file monthly reports detailing the lobbyist's activities during that month and compensation received. After the legislative session is completed, the lobbyist may request a waiver of the requirement to file monthly reports. The lobbyist and employer must file an annual report detailing lobbying activities for the lobbying year, which runs from December 1 through the following November 30th. The Commission maintains lists of registered lobbyists, lobbyist employers, state employee legislative designees, and lobbyist compensation.

Maine law also contains restrictions on lobbyists' campaign contributions and gifts to Legislators.

For more information on these requirements, please read the Lobbyist Handbook and Lobbyist Disclosure Law or telephone the Ethics Commission at (207) 287-4179.
