Maine EMS Treatment Protocols

2011 Maine EMS Prehospital Treatment Protocols

Maine Prehospital Treatment Protocol Books ( effective December 1, 2011) are available for purchase from Maine EMS:

Cost:

    • $5.00 per book for tax exempt agencies – if picked up at Maine EMS.
    • $5.25 per book for those required to pay Maine sales tax (e.g. individuals, or non-tax exempt organizations) – if picked up at Maine EMS
    • $6.00 per book for tax exempt agencies – if mailed.
    • $6.30 per book for those required to pay sales tax (e.g. individuals, or non-tax exempt organizations) – if mailed
                     
      Contact Maine EMS for case discount price (a case contains eighty-eight protocol books)

Payment methods:

    • Cash, check or money order.  Make check or money order payable to: Treasurer of State
    • Credit card – Maine EMS accepts MasterCard, Visa or Discover cards
    • Purchase Order  (EMS Services, organizations and government entities only)

Purchase Options:

    • Send a check, money order or purchase order to: Maine EMS, 152 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333-0152.  Include the address to which the book(s) will be sent and number of books requested;
    • Send a credit card purchase request to Maine EMS.  The request must include:
    • Credit card type (MasterCard, Visa, Discover);
    • Credit card number;
    • Credit card expiration date;
    • Name of holder as it appears on the card; and,
    • The three digit security code found on the back of the card;
    • Address to which the book(s) will be mailed;
    • Number of books requested.
    • Call Maine EMS at 207-626-3860 with a purchase order or credit card number.
    • Stop by Maine EMS at 45 Commerce Drive, Suite 1 in Augusta, Maine between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.  Directions to Maine EMS may be found on the Contact Us page.

Shortage Protocols

In response to identified shortages, interim protocols have been approved by the Medical Directions and Practice Board.

Prior to implementation, providers must be appropriately trained and Maine EMS must be notified about the shortage and the anticipated length of time the interim protocol may be necessary.

Special Circumstances Protocol:

There are situations when a patient has a specific medical condition that requires emergency medical treatment, which may not be part of the Maine EMS Prehospital Treatment Protocols. In these situations, patients, parents, and legal guardians may request a Special Circumstances Protocol that would identify the patient’s special medical condition and the treatment(s) required in the event of an emergency.

FCC License

Licensed ambulance services in Maine are authorized by the license issued to Maine EMS (WPHU789) to use the frequency 155.385 and must operate in accordance with license.

This authorization may be revoked if use is not in compliance with the above referenced FCC license.
