To Celebrate EMS Week and:

  • Unveiling of Maine EMS Memorial and Education Site
  • Annual Statewide EMS Award Winners
  • Kick-Off of the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride

The event marks delivery and unveiling of the Phase 1 EMS Memorial and Education Site audio tour, granite, glass and sign features after eight years of planning and fund-raising.  The features will be constructed into the site following the ceremony and throughout this summer.

The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride is an annual event to recognize those who work in EMS and honor those who have passed away. This year, the event starts in Maine and ~ 125 cyclists will start their way to Philadelphia, PA, from the Augusta ceremony.

The Maine EMS Board’s annual statewide EMS awards will be presented during the ceremony.

Your service is invited and encouraged have an ambulance or EMS vehicle, and/or staff in uniform, at this first of its kind ceremony.

If you wish to be represented, please contact Nancy McGinnis (overdue@roadrunner.com; 485-1458) and let her know your service name, contact person and information, what vehicle(s) you will be bringing and approximately how many will be attending in uniform.  There is no registration…all are welcome, even at the last minute! We are just trying to plan space.

The event takes place at 9:30 AM and will last approximately an hour.  We ask that vehicles be brought in by 8:45 AM for line up.  The site is between the fire and police memorials and adjacent to the intersection of State (Rtes. 201/27) and Union Streets in Augusta. This is near the Capitol building and Capitol Park.

Special Circumstances Protocol:

There are situations when a patient has a specific medical condition that requires emergency medical treatment, which may not be part of the Maine EMS Prehospital Treatment Protocols. In these situations, patients, parents, and legal guardians may request a Special Circumstances Protocol that would identify the patient’s special medical condition and the treatment(s) required in the event of an emergency.
