Home > Internal Letter Date Name Address Dear The Department of Education is required by the Office of Civil Rights to conduct on-site reviews of vocational programs in schools receiving federal financial assistance. The purpose of the review is to ensure that schools that provide vocational programs are in compliance with the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Department is also required by Section 113(b)(3)(C) of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Education Act Amendments of 1990 to monitor programs conducted by eligible recipients of Perkins funds and to ensure compliance with all Maine Standards of Service for Students with Special Needs (adopted by the Maine State Board of Education, January 9, 1991). Review of all vocational and applied technology education programs in relation to those standards will be carried out simultaneously with the Methods of Administration review. The review team will consist of Department of Education personnel with expertise in the area being reviewed. I will be the on-site team leader. The dates for the review are _________. Enclosed is a tentative agenda and materials checklist so that we may develop the final schedule together. In the event of conflicts, please call me at 624-6747 and we will be happy to make adjustments where necessary. Sincerely, Leslie "Buzz" Gamble Team Leader |
