Student services provided by GEAR UP, through the GEAR UP Advisor may include: academic advising, financial aid information, scholarship information, individualized success planning, college preparation activities, career exploration activities, access and assistance with the following required courses: pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, college English, and Geometry, ACT/SAT information, campus visits, parent workshops, mentoring, tutoring, study skills, test taking skills and goal setting.

EARLY INTERVENTION ACTIVITIES

  • Providing a continuous system of mentoring, advising, counseling and tutoring to students

  • Providing information about higher education options, required academic course work and financial aid

  • Ensuring student access to rigorous college preparatory courses

  • Organizing activities to encourage parental involvement in preparing students for college

  • COnducting early college awareness training

  • Providing after school activities that promote student achievement and college preparation

  • Providing summer programs that include instructions in rigorous coursework and exposure to college programs through visits to college campuses

  • Providing training and instruction in career exploration activities.
