DECA

DECA is an association of marketing students.  Maine DECA chapters are located in the Career and Technical Education schools.  DECA focuses on marketing expertise, workplace skills and professional presentation.  Community service is an integral component of DECA.

This organization is student focused and career orientated.  Student leadership skills are an essential component of the program.  Students get an opportunity to meet with other students from all over the state and compete for awards and scholarships.  They learn what it means to be a member of a team.  The community service work enables them to become a contributing citizen within their own towns; this in turn promotes an attitude of personal pride and accomplishment.  For more information please contact Meg Harvey at 624-6739.

Maine DECA State Conference

Maine DECA students “strut their stuff” in February a the state conference held in Portland. All eligible DECA students will be able to compete for awards and scholarships in many exciting competitions.  Throughout the school year, students practice their role-play skills, study their marketing curriculum and raise the funds for this great opportunity.  The new Student leadership team is chosen at the conference. Please contact your local DECA chapter for more information and support your DECA students.

Leadership Opportunities for all Students

DECA, Maine's oldest premier CTE student organization has traditionally been available to only students in approved Marketing programs throughout the state. Over time the needs of our membership have changed and we have changed to meet them.  We (the Maine Marketing Education Association) have made a charter change to open up membership to other interested organizations.

Internationally DECA supports a membership of over 160,000 students.  In Maine membership usually runs between 150 - 200 members.  The goal of DECA is to:

  • Improve educational and career opportunities in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
  • Work with the business community to integrate academic achievement with vocational and career skills.

Maine DECA normally participates in three conferences during the year.  A regional conference (NAR - north Atlantic region), our State DECA competitive conference in late February, then the International Career Development Conference.

We invite all students to join DECA and experience the many leadership opportunities it provides.  Currently some of the CTE schools have DECA chapters that students could join; in cases where there is no established chapter, one could be formed.  If your organization is interested in having the state officers and their advisor give a presentation, please contact Margaret Harvey, State DECA liaison at 624-6739 and she will coordinate the meeting.
