Higher Education

Recommendation from the Subcommittee on Public Input

The subcommittee met on July 27, 2005, and had the following consensus (of all
present) for recommendations to the Task Force:

  • That the purpose of this first stage of public input for the task force is to energize a broad cross section of stakeholders to develop a vision of the future of public higher education in Central Maine. Secondarily we felt the process may become a model for the state to gather input, energize constituents and build support for higher education.

  • That we utilize the Appreciative Inquiry process for this first stage of public input, and for the Task Force session integrating this input.

  • That we go forward on a Saturday, so that people are fresh, and not tired after work. Saturday, October 1st is recommended.

  • That we utilize the full time that this process requires (whether that is 5 or 6 hours), with the understanding that some people may not choose to devote this much time, but that the people that come will be those who are most concerned about this issue.

  • That we utilize the ITV system if possible in order to link in UCB, and possibly KVCC – with adjunct facilitators on-site in these locations.

  • That we utilize Innovation Partners International for facilitation of the process.

  • That all members of the Task Force be encouraged to participate in the day.

The following responsibilities were designated for preparation:

1) Invitations
2) Communication plan
3) Preparation of AI questions, along with IPI
