TASK FORCE ON GENDER EQUITY IN EDUCATION

WELCOME: Patrick welcomed the Research Team members to the meeting.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES (as amended) of DECEMBER 15, 2005 RESEARCH TEAM MEETING: The members approved the minutes, by consensus.

LENDING LIBRARY TRANSACTIONS: Completed.

UPDATE ON REPORT: Mary distributed her most recent outline of the proposed structure (aligned with the associated research questions), and much of the Maine testing data she will include in Section I (A Call to Action). She will need followup on: 1) requests for data she's made or she'd like made to various Task Force members; and 2) the Strategies for Change that are recommended by Task Force to address the identified issues. Susan noted that Mary should feel free to pass these requests for followup on to her and Susan will pursue as needed, especially the data requests. As part of engaging the Task Force in the discussion about recommended practices, Mary will send along to Susan her next iteration of the draft report, annotated to show where data or recommended practices are needed, by about February 5; that will allow for Susan to send it electronically to the whole Task Force to consider prior to the February 10 meeting. Susan did note that we have two presentations that day but that even if there isn't a great deal of discussion time at the meeting, there will be opportunity for email response. Further, we will request that Task Force members provide their feedback on the drafts - particularly on recommended practices - after the meeting, as well, starting with this meeting. This is an important contribution that the Task Force members have the expertise to make. Members recommended that this task be framed for Task Force members in terms of very specific outcomes, to ensure that we develop the information needed for the report.

PLAN FOR ROLLOUT DISCUSSION WITH EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEE: The Research Team members agreed that it would be best to reconvene the Event Planning Team at the next full Task Force meeting, so they can lead the work on the rollout and training, in parallel with the work of this Team on the Report. The progress of this Team will inform the work of the Event Planning Team.
