Serving English language learners

As in any K-12 public school program, schools are required to administer the Home Language Survey (HLS) to all new enrollees to identify English language learners (ELLs), and once identified as an ELL, to provide services and programming to all ELLs.  Schools should refer to the School Administrative Unit’s (SAU’s) Lau Plan and work with its English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsed teacher and Language Acquisition Committee (LAC) to ensure that federal and state laws are properly implemented.
