RE: Announcing
Local Educational Agency Homeless Liaison Training Date
Subtitle B of Title VII of the McKinney-Vento
Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11431 et seq.), amended and
reauthorized as part of the No Child Left Behind Act, stipulates “local
educational agencies will designate an appropriate staff person, who may also
be a coordinator for other Federal programs, as a local education agency
liaison for homeless children and youths.” A training session is scheduled for
January 22, 2004 in the Riverside Room at Howard Johnson’s in Portland (see enclosed map).
The morning session from 9:00-12:00 will be for new homeless liaisons. Participants will receive training pertaining to:
An afternoon session will be held from 1:00-3:00 for previously
designated and trained homeless liaisons who are ready for the finer points of
the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and discussion on meeting the
requirements of the law.
Invited guest speakers Patricia Julianelle from the National Law Center
on Poverty and Homelessness and Barbara Duffield, Policy Director for the
National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth will be
facilitating the afternoon workshop.
