Vision Statements for Maine Agricultural Education*

  • By the Year 2010, a high level of agricultural literacy will have been attained among K-12 students in all Maine communities, with elementary schools having integrated agricultural topics into the overall curriculum for all grade levels in advancement of Maine's Learning Results.

 

  • By the Year 2005, members of the food/fiber/environment agricultural education system will recognize their common interests and actively communicate and collaborate via joint participation in workshops and programs, with coordination fostered by Agricultural Education Steering Committee and the Agriculture and Natural Resources Education Consultant.

 

  • By 2015, all Maine K-12 teachers will have the opportunity for training in integrating agricultural topics into their curriculums.

 

  • By 2005, following a review of the current agricultural education teacher certification process, Maine students will be able to complete certification programs in agricultural education at a variety of postsecondary institutions in Maine.

 

  • By 2005, student organizations will have attained a high level of student participation, with total enrollment tripled over 1997 levels and with regular coordination among the various student organizations (ex. FFA and 4-H).

 

  • By 2015, in furtherance of Career Preparation and the Science & Technology Standards of Maine's Learning Results, all graduating Maine secondary students will have an understanding of the career and advanced educational opportunities presented by agriculture, including the area of emerging technologies.
