Troop K - Commercial Vehicle EnforcementThe mission of Troop K, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement is to ensure that commercial vehicles in Maine comply with state size and weight laws and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as adopted by the State of Maine. Our focus is the safety of the motoring public. Troop K consists of sworn state troopers and civilian motor carrier inspectors. All are specially trained in the complex and highly technical laws and regulations governing commercial vehicles in Maine. While our offices are located in Augusta, Troop K is divided into three geographic sections covering the entire state of Maine. Maine has three permanent weigh and inspection facilities on Interstate 95 located in Kittery, York and Old Town. Several rest areas on Interstate 95 and throughout the state are regularly used as temporary weigh and inspection stations. In addition to these enforcement details, all Troop K troopers carry portable scales and can stop and weigh trucks anywhere. Inspections are conducted to established North American Standards, and results are electronically submitted to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's SAFER system. Other functions and missions of Troop K - Commercial Vehicle Enforcement include; providing technical expertise and assistance to local and municipal law enforcement agencies with commercial vehicle issues, responding to serious motor vehicle crashes involving commercial vehicles, enforcing federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials, and conducting speaking engagements for the commercial transportation industry to address specific problems.
