Board of Trustees A Message from the ChairI am honored to chair the Board of Trustees of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. The Board is comprised of highly motivated and positive thinking law enforcement and corrections officials and citizen members who are committed to implementing and overseeing proactive policies and procedures in both the law enforcement and corrections communities. The ultimate beneficiaries of the work of the Board are the citizens of the State of Maine. The Board consists of 17 members, 12 of whom are appointed by the Governor and the remaining five of whom serve on the board by virtue of their public office. The Board membership includes five members who are not and never have been a sworn member of a law enforcement agency. The Board is responsible for the training and certification of all law enforcement and corrections officers in the State (including State Police enlisted personnel, harbor masters, and court security officers), the setting of admission and graduation standards, the certification of police chiefs and sheriffs and jail administrators, and other training programs considered to be beneficial to law enforcement officers, corrections officers, and other criminal justice personnel. The Board is also responsible for certifying instructors and inservice and refresher training conducted for law enforcement and corrections personnel in the State. Finally, the Board is responsible for the revocation or suspension of the certification of law enforcement or corrections officers who fail to meet training standards or who engage in wrongdoing. The Board of Trustees remains committed to the recognition that education, training, and standards are the cornerstones of our professional foundation. Each member of the Board is dedicated to continuing to build a more professional and highly trained criminal justice community for the citizens of Maine. Brian MacMaster
