Insurance Discounts for Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems

The statistics for residential fire sprinkler systems on saving both lives and property is very impressive. In the 15 year study of Scottsdale, Arizona's residential fire sprinkler system ordinance, there were 13 fire deaths...but none in the 40,000 sprinklered homes. Average property damage from fire and water in sprinklered homes was less than $2300 per fire. Average property damage from fire and water in unsprinklered homes was more than $45,000 per home!

This is typical of the track record of residential fire sprinkler systems throughout the country, and this translates into many major insurance companies giving credits on homeowners premiums for fire sprinkler systems. I have a list below of leading insurance companies in Maine that provide credits from 5 % to 12% for fire sprinkler systems.

  • 5% credits have been offered by:

    • Concord Group
    • Farmers
    • One Beacon
    • Patrons
    • Vermont Mutual
  • 5% up to 10% credits have been offered by:

    • Allstate Insurance Group
    • Chubb
    • Liberty Mutual
    • St Paul Travelers
    • Statefarm
  • Between 10% and 12% credits have been offered by:

    • Amica Mutual
    • Maine Mutual Group
    • Patriot Mutual Insurance

Anyone putting in a residential fire sprinkler system needs to shop around if their insurance company does not offer a price break. Likely there are other companies that offer the credits as well. This list above is not meant to be all-inclusive. This list was presented at a Residential Fire Sprinkler Workshop from a Maine Fire Chief who is also an insurance agent.
