Municipal Consumer Fireworks Ordinances

Under Maine Statute Title 8, §223-A, municipalities that prohibit or restrict the sale or use of consumer fireworks shall provide to the Office of the State Fire Marshal a copy of the relevant restriction or prohibition within 60 days of adoption. The list below contains the municipal consumer fireworks ordinances currently on file with the Office of State Fire Marshal. Please check with a municipalities' main office before using fireworks in a municipality that isn't on the list below, because some municipalities have not forwarded their consumer fireworks ordinances to our office. If a municipality has not adopted a consumer fireworks ordinance to prohibit or restrict the sale of consumer fireworks, then state law would apply in that municipality. Select this link to access state guidelines for use of consumer fireworks in a municipality that hasn't adopted a consumer fireworks ordinance.

The municipal fireworks ordinances listed on this page have been arranged into several groups to reflect the general intent of the ordinances. Please review a municipal ordinance for specific information that may be contained within it.
