Highway Safety GrantsThe following goals and objectives are part of Maine's plan to reduce deaths, injuries and property damage resulting from traffic crashes. The Bureau of Highway Safety addresses those highway safety problems that relate to the human behavioral factors of drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and other highway users. It documents, to the extent possible, the severity of identified problem areas. As in prior years, the BHS is incorporating the flexibility needed to support selected prevention activities (e.g., bicycle safety programs for children) that help avoid deaths and injuries. Within these broad categories, funds are programmed to support training, public information and education, equipment acquisition, staff support and program administration. Funded projects can provide direct services and/or system improvements. |
